Plan
- 3km Run
- Body Pump @ 10:15am with Fabio
- 40mins
- 40mins

It's exercise related shopping, so I'm going to talk about it, and you will like it. ^_^
I deliberately cut Body Pump short today so that I could head off as soon as possible to the Rebel Sport Boxing Day Sale. I've been told that a good pair of running shoes should last you a couple of years, but they've been thrashed about so much that after one year, the inner cushioning at the heel and arches of the shoe has eroded something miserable. I can probably get a bit more wear out of them for Body Pump and Step, but for running, I definitely was in need of some proper footwear.
This time, I looked to a different brand - I currently have a pair of New Balance runners, but I looked to Asics. I tried on the first pair and oh my god, they felt like heaven - it was like the shoe had been custom designed for my foot. Then I looked at the price.
$280.00

Just my luck, out of all the Asics trainers there, the one I had tried on - the Asics Gel Kayano - was the most expensive. I frantically tried the other shoes from the Asics brand, and then tried ones from other brands - Adidas, Nike, Saucony, Brooks, Reebok New Balance etc. (Rebel Sport doesn't stock Mizuno, unfortunately.) Every single one of them felt inferior to the first pair I'd tried on.

While I won't be able to use them for running until the foot is recovered, I'm excited with the new gears. Instead of the planned run, I swapped it for Body Pump with Fabio.

Fabio is a new Body Jam instructor at New Lynn - he's a flamboyant Brazilian, and I was interested to try out his class and suss him out. Pump is a good class to taste test new instructors. While Fabio is new to New Lynn, he's certainly not new to Les Mills. He announced that this class was a Pump Flashback class, jam packed with tracks from way back when.
So much that when he announced the triceps track, I was scratching my head. He said, "This triceps track is dedicated to... ME! A bit of latin!" I thought, "... latin? In Body Pump?"
When I heard the beginning of 'She Bangs', I thought "Oh my god.. you canNOT be serious?!" But apparently, it is! As far back as BP38? Good grief! I would say it was probably a bit too fast to be effective, but my god, it certainly was an energetic track. Somehow, I think I prefer the Body Jam choreo ;-)
It was great that Fabio has such a wide repetoire of Body Pump tracks, and it was absolutely refreshing to do a Pump class that does NOT use Big Girls' Don't Cry. Seems like every class I've done recently has had at unfortunate honour. What a shame it's one of the very few Body Pump tracks I abhor. (for the music, not the choreo - since from what I can remember, the choreo is similar for the track Glen is putting together for BP70).
Hmmm... I seem to be writing less and less in these posts - I know it's because I've drastically cut back the exercise since the awful pain I experienced in the foot on Tuesday, and it's strange. I normally have so much more to waffle on about.
I'm looking forward to Jam with Carla tomorrow - but I'll need to take it easy. If I can restrict myself to one impact class a week; and it being Jam, where I know how to modify whilst still looking cool ( :-P ), I think I'd be doing pretty good. Then I'll need to do a couple of practice 3km walks before the 11th of Jan hits. (Eeeek.)
