Pump and Run

Plan

  • Body Pump @ 6am
  • 3km Run
Actual
  • Body Pump with Magali
    • 45mins
  • Run - 3.04km
    • 25:30mins
When I woke up this morning, I did not want to get up and do Body Pump. I snoozed and snoozed and snoozed and finally, somehow, at 5:17am, I managed to get out of bed.

Noone would've told me off if I didn't go, and I was a bit worried since I did feel a bit of a twinge in the lower back, but I told myself that I would go easy with the weights for the squat and back track - and if I were to go to Pump, I could treat myself with something nice for lunch.

Just my luck. First class back and Magali picks goddamn Voodoo Child for the squat track. AND, she picks that goddamn triceps track California. You know, the one with the DIPS? Bah. Thankfully, she picked my favourite Pump track, Walk this Way, for the biceps track.

I was going to squat with 1kg plates on the bar for the glutes track, but for some reason, saw it as a pride stain to go down from 5kg plates. Instead, I went down to 2.5kg, and it was embarrassing how challenging it was. Maybe it was because of the difficult track that Magali had picked, but really, it made me sad to see how, yet again, injury had gotten in the way of my Body Pump goals.

In the evening, the one thing I did not feel like doing when I got home was going for a run. And so I didn't. Until much later, after dinner. In fact, as I type this, it's only about 20 minutes ago that I did my run.

Today was the first time I clocked up 3km in distance since after the back injury. I did just over it since my treadmill at home goes by miles and when I'm in full flight, sometimes the mathematical distance calculations don't come as fast.

Something I realised when I was doing my planning to get back up to 5km, was I missed the numbers when I was doing the whole weight loss thing. As I logged in my times for my past runs, I thought, "Why can't I incorporate all those things I loved about weight loss into my running?" The tickers, the graphs, the graphics - I mean, why not?

And with that I bring you...

Ta-da! My C&E running ticker! Innit purdy?

My first goal is a bit beyond the distance for a quarter marathon, though I'm not sure whether I'm going to do the quarter marathon this year. We'll see. I know it's feasible for some people who run several times a week and don't do any other forms of cardio, but I love Body Jam and RPM more than running, which is why you'll find me gladly doing those forms of cardio in preference to running.

It'll be great when I can move that ticker along up to 5km. While I may or may not be doing the quarter marathon in November, there's still the matter of that 5km Race in June.

Hmm...you ran on Sunday, you ran on Monday as well.

You should give your body a day off between running as you will injure yourself otherwise.

And go for my run in between an RPM class and a Body Jam class on Tuesday?

I don't think so!

:O
In my city, Buenos Aires, Working day begins between 7.30/9.00 and ends between 5.00/8.00 PM (it depends on the activity)
But, see, gyms open by 7.00 or 8.00 AM, and close 11 or 12.00 PM
By the way, my Body Pump class finished at 10.00 PM, I had a shower, then 30' on the bus... home at 11.20 PM, went for a short walk with my dog, dinner at 11.40 PM... and now, 1.00 AM I'm surfing the web.
So... today I'll wake up at 7.30 AM

Sincerely ... I admire you, waking up at 5.17. And I admire Les Mills timetable too.

Our gyms open up earlier, though they definitely close earlier too - last class finishes at 8:30pm at all of the clubs. It'd be nice if the Les Mills clubs were open later too, then maybe I wouldn't have to get up so early, I never was a morning person :-D
